Objective: This study aims to investigate the apoptosis of human ovarian carcinoma induced by lighting emitting diode (LED)-activated MPPa. Methods: A special LED equipment and human ovarian carcinoma cell line COC1/DDP was subjected in the study. Apoptosis was determined 4 hours after LED-activated MPPa using fluorescent staining with Hoechst 33258. Results: In the control groups, the nuclei were stained a less bright blue and the color was homogeneous. After being irradiated by LED-activated MPPa for 4 h, the blue emission light was much bright than the control cells. Condensation of chromatin and nuclear fragmentations was found in many PDT-treated cells. Conclusion: LED-activated MPPa could effectively induce apoptosis of human ovarian carcinoma cells.
